Our Story

Started by 3 graduates of Humber College's Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner program, who made the Dean’s Honour List. We came together to create AcuHeal Toronto with our shared experience and vision. Our time at Humber College allowed us to gain clinical experience at Tzu Chi Clinic of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and have internships with various knowledgeable and experienced TCM Practitioners.

It is because of these opportunities that allowed us to start AcuHeal Toronto in one of our mentor’s, Wendy Zhang’s, clinic.
We are an Acupuncture Clinic dedicated to complementary healing and pain management through Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our treatments are designed with care and attention to detail in order to provide a complete holistic approach to the problems you might be having.

Each session starts with a thorough patient evaluation to better understand your unique health questions and concerns. Then we devise a tailored treatment plan that is unique to you. We keep a careful eye on the outcomes and make adjustments as needed.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has over 2000 years of history with a holistic approach in treating illnesses, preventing disease and promoting health. TCM has a large range of modalities such as acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicine, food therapy, Tui Na (massage) and Qi Gong (breathing exercises) to be used for therapeutic effect.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, single-use, sterile needles into specific points on the body. Acupuncture is used to unblock any obstructions in the channels of the body to promote smooth flow of Qi. It provides a safe and effective way to encourage the natural healing of the body, mind, and spirit.

Qi? Channels? Obstruction? What is all this?

In TCM theory, the body has channels of Qi (energy) running throughout it. When the smooth flow of energy is disrupted in some way, this blockage can cause pain/discomfort and lead to disease.

Modern research has demonstrated that acupuncture can cause multiple biological responses.  This can lead to the activation of pathways that affect various physiological systems in the brain as well as in the periphery. Numerous clinical trials have shown that acupuncture treatments are effective for many medical conditions.

Does acupuncture hurt?

No. It shouldn’t hurt if done right. An acupuncture needle is as thin as a strand of hair. Forty acupuncture needles can fit into the tip of one standard 18 gauge hypodermic needle.  At most you might feel a pinch for a fraction of a second.

Sensations you might feel and is normal may include a dull achy sensation, numbness, tingling, warmth, heaviness, or electric. This is the Arrival of Qi. It means the energy is flowing.
